Updated Federal Tax Filing Due Date

The IRS, through executive order by the President, has extended the federal income tax filing deadline to July 15, 2020. This comes only days after the IRS extended the payment due date. As of right now, Illinois has not extended its filing deadline, however, we anticipate they will issue more guidance soon. As each state is issuing their own filing relief rules in response to COVID-19 we will be handling each state on a case by case basis as the original April 15th deadline approaches.

Again, for those of you that have not provided your 2019 tax information, please do so as soon as possible so we can take care of your tax preparation. Providing your tax documentation will allow you to file your return now in the event of a refund. It will also provide you with more time to plan for the payment that will be due on July 15th in the event of a balance due. Our offices are open during this crisis to serve our clients, however, in an effort to practice “social distancing”, we are encouraging everyone to drop off, mail or upload your documents instead of trying to schedule a tax appointment.

We will continue to monitor the situation and inform you of any changes as information becomes available. If you should have any questions please feel free to reach out to your tax specialist at Eder, Casella & Co.
